Freud worked on the conscience of the brain. He says that the id is the unconscient and biggest part of the brain, and that we have an ego and a surego.
He says that dreams are created by the id. We dream about things that afraid us, or wish could happen. He believes the dreams to be composed of two parts : he manifest and latent content. The manifest content can be thought of as what a person would remember as soon as they wake up. The manifest content possesses no meaning whatsoever because it was a disguised representation of the true thought underlying the dream.
The latent content holds the true meaning of the dream – the forbidden thoughts and the unconscious desires.
